Gorilla Glues can be a life saver. It forms strong bonds. Sometimes, even so strong it can cause use issues…
Sometimes, when you try to glue together something made out of plastic via a Gorilla Glue, you end up getting the product on the wrong parts. Since superglue itself is a form of plastic once dried, removing it from a part made up of the same material can prove to be a tricky job.
However, you need not worry. We are here to tell you how to remove Gorilla Glue from plastic successfully.
The first thing you should do is gather all the required elements which will aid you in removing the glue.
Such components include:
- Plastic wrap
- Cotton balls
- Rubbing alcohol
- Paper towel
- A bowl and a cloth
It is best that you make a checklist of all the required items so as to manage the task efficiently.
Steps to take
Once you have all the required items, here are the steps you have to take to remove the glue.
Step 1- Combine and moisten
The first thing you should do is add soap into a bucket or bowl of water and mix it thoroughly so as to get a “bubbly” mixture. After doing so, proceed by taking either a soft cloth or a paper towel and immersing it in the mixture so as to moisten it.
Step 2- Soak the plastic with the soft cloth
Use the wet, soft cloth and place it on top of the glue. Leave the cloth in this position for a few hours. This act will ensure that the glue gets soft and remains moist for a long time. If you feel that the cloth is drying off, immerse it in the soap mixture again. Put it on top of the glue again and cover it all with a plastic sheet. If necessary, you can use a tape to seal off the edges for maximum moisture.
After this process has been in place for a minimum of three hours, you may remove the plastic covering and the cloth.
Step 3- Remove the softened glue
If you have completed the second step, the glue on the plastic would now have a soft texture compared to the dried version of glue.. Use a clean and dry cloth and remove the glue by rubbing rigorously.
Keep rubbing the glue off until the adhesive has been removed completely from the plastic. The rubbing process may take a little while, but it will yield positive results.
If you wish to save time and want a quicker way, you can use alcohol to remove the Gorilla Glue. Dip a cotton ball into alcohol and rub it on the affected part. Alcohol will serve to soften the adhesive at a faster rate, after which you can use a dry cloth to rub the product off.
Once you remove the glue, it is advised that you wipe the affected plastic clean via fresh water. This step will ensure that all traces of alcohol is eliminated from the plastic.
All in all, there is no rocket science as to how to remove Gorilla Glue from plastic. All you need is dedication to the cause and a supply of all the required items.
Next time you accidentally apply adhesive onto unwanted plastic parts, all you have to do is follow the steps mentioned above and you will be good to go.
