Plush toys attract a ton of dirt and germs. Although they might receive fierce love and hugs from your junior, they could still end up getting dirtier by the day. Toys that can be machine washed are only a whirl away from a brand new look. However, not all the plush toys can be thrown into a washing machine. A machine wash can be pretty hard on the stitches and the stuffing. The chances are that your child’s favorite toy will never be the same again after a stormy machine wash. Only if you can handle your junior’s wrath, you are more than welcome to ignore the manufacturer’s instructions. Otherwise, consider the options listed below.

Washing Machine Method
If you force a stuffed toy into a machine, the stuffing may shift during a wash, and the plush toy will lose its shape. It’s best recommended to check what the product labels say about the washing instructions. As such, sturdier plush toys can survive a machine wash. However, don’t take the liberty of mixing them with your regular laundry list. Also, don’t just throw them into the washing machine. Put them in a mesh washing bag or a pillow case before inserting them into the machine to prevent wear and tear during a wash. It’s advisable to wash them using a gentle cycle with any mild detergent and cold water option. Afterward, hang up them so that they can dry. As a word of caution, do not machine wash a big plush toy because it will prevent the machine from rotation. Moreover, if there are loose buttons, stitch them before using the machine or else the buttons might come off during a wash.
Vacuum Cleaning Method
Don’t wait for the dirt to gather on the plush toys like wildfire. Whenever you get a chance, get rid of all the dust and dirt by using your regular vacuum cleaner. To keep all the pollutants at bay, it’s advisable to vacuum the plush toys at least once every fortnight. Be sure to set the vacuum at the lowest possible setting to avoid potential damage during cleaning. Once all the dirt is removed, you can hand-wash stains, if any.
Sponge Bath Method
Simply take a damp sponge to remove dust from the fur of the plush toys. If there are stains, use a wet cloth and a mild detergent to blot the stains in order to eliminate them gently. You can then use a machine on low settings to clean them up thoroughly.
Baking Soda Method
You can give your plush toy a dry bath with baking soda once in a while. All you need to do is sprinkle baking soda on the plush toy and let it dry for about 15 to 20 minutes. Once the waiting period is over, just brush if off.
Trick to Remove Dust Mites
Don’t let the dust mites be a nuisance because there is an easy remedy to eradicate them. One can wrap the plush toy in a plastic bag and place it in a freezer for an overnight stay. This will eliminate all the dust mites that have made home on the stuffed toys over a period of time. To prevent moisture damage, only use dry toys and make use of bags that prevent air passage.
